With a full schedule, despite the uncooperative weather during the Christmas – New Year week, someone had to stay ashore to take care of all the catering, reservations, etc. So Eleanor and Melanie stepped in, with Eleanor crewing on the overnight trips, and Melanie doing the day trips. They have spent a big part of the summer holidays working on Freewind, with a very busy few weeks between mid-December and now.
With good breezes just about every day, we’ve done a lot of sailing and very little motoring, and seen lots of dolphins (who seem to be drawn to Freewind as she sails around the Bay). We’ve stopped at all the islands – Roberton Is., Urupukapuka, Motorua, Waiwaitoria, and some of the bays along the Russell Peninsula. Kayaking, fishing, and even mussel collecting have been very popular with everyone, and quite a few of the overnight trips enjoyed a breakfast of fried freshly-caught fish on top of Ron’s famous bacon-and-eggs on toast.

“ Hi there Ron
I would just like to say thanks again. We had a wonderful day of sailing and the mussels were awesome… …Sailing with you guys was the best way to start our Kiwi adventure. I will definitely recommend you guys to anyone coming your way. thanks.
Cheers

Well, that’s all for now. Things will probably be slowing down a bit from now on, now that people are getting back to work and the kids back to school. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and if you’re reading this from wintery Europe – keep warm!
Fair winds and following seas,
Dalia (the shore crew) :-)
